#18 Make Your Own Planet

Creating your own planet

I decided to create a planet that models after the planet Earth. But they would have some polar opposites. My planet has a north and south pole. This is where all of the arctic animals live in peace. There are science centers located at each pole so scientists can research and care for all of the different animals.

There are land masses similar to earth but they are each their own Eco system. One of the large islands is the tropics, another the wetlands, and land systems that see all four seasons. Winter, spring, summer and fall. I've chosen to have my planet be inhabited by humans but everyone is Eco conscious of what they do and they try to live off the land. Grow their own food, make sure that the climate of their planet is taken care of. There is very few instances of violence on my planet but outbreaks do occur. Each land mass is broken up into different continents and within those are countries. The governments that rule are for the people and by the people. They take in account the land, climate, and the animals that live there. This is one of the polar opposites of how it is like on planet Earth.

The oceans will be filled will all types of aquatic sea life and plants. The tropics will have rain forest animals, the wetlands will have bog and warm weather animals. One animal that you will see in every part of the land masses and waters is penguins. These animals have been able to adapt to the different ecosystems and live harmoniously with the humans. Some are even pets. Humans will have the choice of having cats, bunnies, dogs, penguins, fish or parrots as pets.

First I took a regular bouncy ball that had a Frozen print on it and spray-painted it with a white spray paint made to stick on rubber. After that had dried I applied different colors of blue paint to create the oceans. I let this sit to dry next to the wood stove to dry.

Next I outlined and painted my two polar land masses in white and then added a touch of gray paint to give it dimensions. Once the white paint dried I added a silver glitter paint on top.

Next I outlined in a small paint brush in green what I wanted my land masses to look like before I painted them in with different colors of green.

Lastly I painted over the blue oceans with a clear paint that had blue glitter and blue metallic flecks in the paint. This will give the ocean a shine, and make it and the green land masses stand out more on the ball.

#16 Potions

Potions
(Bring on the Harry Potter references)

As we all know that potions can be a difficult class to take, with Snape brooding over how much Harry is so much like his father that 10 point from Gryffindor Making potions can be a fun activity to do with your students.

I of course when told of the task we had to do in class instantly thought of Harry Potter and what potion I could try and re-create. I noticed on our table there was a bottle of red food coloring and I knew what potion I was going to try and re-create.

Amortentia
(The Love Potion)

  • First I started out with one tablet of anti acid relief, because you know love hits you right in the heart.
  • I put the crushed up tablet in the bottom of my potion vile, next I poured in some water, this caused an instant reaction of bubbles that started to rise up in the potion vile. This is the butterfly feeling you get in your stomach when you see that special person.
  • I decided to pour in a little vinegar, this is because although a love potion it doesn't create true love, but infatuation.
  • Next I added three drops of red food coloring and some more water to mix in the coloring drops. The red symbolizes your heard and the blood that runs throughout you.

These pictures are from me making Amortentia in class

This is a bottle of Amortentia that I bought at Weasleys Wizard Wheezes in Diagon Alley last March

Love potions are brews, which cause the drinker to become infatuated or obsessed with the person who gave it to them. Love potions are considered to be powerful and highly dangerous. Amortentia is the most powerful love potion in existence.
Love potions are banned items at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, though students still smuggled them into the school through various means.

When brewing with your little witches and wizards remind them that saftey is first. Wear robes (coats) and safety goggles (wands) to protect yourself and aid in your potion creations. Because you don't want to end up like Seamus Finnigan.

How to make your own..
  • Ashwinder Eggs. First drop one ashwinder egg into your cauldron
  • Rose Thorns. Next add in a handful of rose thorns
  • Refined Peppermint Oil. These ingredient is easy to get, it can be found in any muggle store
  • Add one Moonstone
  • Stir Your Mixture
  •  You will see Spirals Of Steam coming out of your cauldron
  • Next add Mother Of Pearl
  • Give The Potion To Your Crush but remember it doesn't create true and real love. Only a powerful infatuation or obsession from the drinker. Like Ron eating entire box of chocolates that were meant for Harry Potter, who both did not know they were doused in a love potion

#15 Bubbles

Bubbles

Before the time of children's bubble blowing, and bubble wands. There was just soap bubbles and two men by the names of Andrew Pears a farmers son and Thomas J. Barratt who was often referred to as the father of modern advertising.

Andrew Pears in 1835 recognized the potential of a purer, more gentle soap which would treat more kindly the delicate alabaster complexions then in favor (the upper classes unfavorably associated tanned faces with those of the lower orders who were obliged to toil out of doors for a living). He set about perfecting a manufacturing process for such a product.

Pears set to it by removing impurities and refining the base soap before adding the delicate perfume of English garden flowers. Not only was this product of high quality, it also possessed the great novelty value of being transparent. And it was this latter aspect which gave Pears Soap just the image it needed to be clearly identified by the public.

Pears came to Thomas J. Barratt to advertise his new product to the masses. Thus came this portrait below.
A portrait of a little boy the son of the painter. Simply known as "Bubbles". This painting was used as an advertisement for Pears's company. And it would soon be so well known that whenever people saw this advertisement they instantly knew it was for Pears's company and his soap.

  • The earliest patents for bubble blowers known date back to the 1920s.
  • Pipes and wands were the earliest mass produced bubble blowers.
  • Vintage bubble sets most popular in the 1940s, generally came in brightly decorated boxes and included a bar of soap, a dish for the soap water, and a bubble pipe or two.

  •  Battery-operated and mechanical bubble blowers, often made with colorful lithographed tin bases, became popular in the 50s and 60s.
